Apollo, male Boston Terrier/Wheaten Terrier mix, DOB   9/14/07 and weighs approximately 31 lbs.  Apollo was adopted out as a puppy (we actually had mom and dad so we do know his mix), and he was recently returned.  His family found that they had one dog more than their subdivision allowed and a neighbor complained, so the family reluctantly had to give him up.  Apollo is housetrained, gets along well with other dogs, loves kids and is very friendly with everyone. He loves to be by your side and will be happy to veg out with you and watch a movie! Apollo does have beef allergies, but that is simply handled by feeding him Iams food & treats (without beef) and they are readily available. Tag #6300HHS

Luke – male Australian Shepard mix, DOB  9/1/08, weighs approx. 33 lbs.  Luke
is a cuddler, as soon as you reach to pet him he rolls onto his back and
stretches out for a belly rub and his hair is so downy soft, making him more
irresistible to pet.  Luke prefers to be an only pet, chasing cats and not
getting along well with other dogs.  Luke is just another case of the same old
story – stray picked up by animal control, another black dog hoping to find a
loving home.  Luke was fortunate to be rescued and not face the fate of so many
black dogs.  We have many black dogs right now – please take the time to meet
these dogs – don’t rule them out because of their color. Tag#5946HHS

Kermit is a Labrador Retriever/Shepherd mix, DOB 12/14/06, weight 65 lbs.  Kermit is a very happy dog, who doesn't have any idea that he is "special needs".  Kermit has been diagnosed with a neurological disorder, possibly from a head injury when he was a puppy. His handicap doesn't stop him from being a normal dog, it just means he has poor balance.  He doesn't need any special medical care, and is expected to live a full, healthy life.  Kermit can walk, run and play, he just occasionally falls down when he loses his balance.  But it doesn't bother him a bit - he just gets right back up and keeps on going!  Kermit has learned to navigate stairs and other obstacles, and using a harness for walks helps him to balance even better.  Kermit is house-trained.  He loves children, but would do best with older children since he may accidentally knock down little ones.  He also loves to play with other dogs, and gets along fine with cats.

Every family needs a dog to love and care for, why not this one?

Pip is a male beagle mix, DOB 4/18/09, weight 6 pounds at 10 weeks old.  A Heartland volunteer was driving down the road and saw a sign for free puppies.  She stopped to offer assistance to the family with finding homes for puppies and having the puppies' parents spayed or neutered.  Pip was the last puppy of the litter, and so she called and asked if I could take him.  Of course who could say no to a puppy like Pip?  He's a tiny little guy with a big voice, and he lets it be known if he is not happy!  Pip loves being held and carried around, hates being left alone, and gets along great with other dogs and cats.  He loves to wrestle with kittens, enjoys carrying around stuffed animals, and thinks the world revolves around him.  If you're interested in adopting Pip, please fill out an online application at www.hhsrescue.org.  Pip has been neutered, microchipped and vaccinated to date.  Tag #6141LM

Noelle is a female American Staffordshire Terrier mix, DOB 6-15-08, weight approx. 50 pounds.  Noelle is a happy, affectionate dog,and she greets every person she meets like they are her best friend.  Noelle is deaf, so she has learned to respond to hand signals instead of voice commands.  She gets along well with most other dogs, although she occasionally meets one she doesn't care for. She loves children, but older children would be better since she can accidentally knock down little ones in her exuberance.  Noelle loves to play with the other dogs in her foster home, and she loves to cuddle with her foster mom on the couch.  Her other favorite activities are going for walks, going for car rides, meeting new people, destuffing stuffed animals, and eating peanut butter. Noelle is crate-trained and housetrained, and has completed beginning obedience classes. Tag #5690LM
Snert is an adorable puppy with a silly name.  You see her snout was injured as a puppy and now she makes a funny noise when she breathes and it sounds kinda like a "snert".  She is a pure bred border collie from working lines (no papers), so she's a smart little girl who will need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation (toys, kongs with treats, etc) to be happy.  She would excel at obedience and/or agility.  Snert is also a lap dog and loves to snuggle on the couch.  She has been raised with other dogs, cats and a young child and would be happy to have other 4-legged friends to help use up her energy, but will try to herd other dogs so a careful match is important (kitties just get kisses).  She has been spayed, microchipped and is current on her vaccinations.  The vet has also examined her mouth and removed a couple of teeth and she shouldn't have lasting issues with her snout.  HHS Tag#JG  DOB 3-08

DASH is a male red cattle dog mix, DOB 3/08 and weighs approx. 50 lbs.
Dash wandered into the yard of a family who already had two dogs, but they took
in Dash and hoped to find his home. They were unsuccessful in finding his
previous home so they asked us to find Dash a new home. Dash is very friendly,
gets along well with other dogs, is housebroken and crate-trained. He has a bit
of energy which is typical of cattle dogs and thoroughly enjoys walking or
jogging alongside you. Tag #5685 HHS

Grizzly is a male chocolate lab that weighs approx. 75 lbs. Date of Birth 6/15/05.  Grizzly is truly a handsome lab and he has the temperament that most people expect with a lab.  Grizzly is friendly with all and greets you with a smile and his whole body wagging in anticipation.  As soon as you start petting him he quickly rolls over for a tummy rub and sighs in happiness at the attention.  Grizzly is crate-trained and appears housetrained as well. He walks well on a leash, loves to play with other dogs and carry around that tennis ball! Tag#5988HHS
Degan is a female Labrador Retriever mix, DOB 11/1/08, current weight 35 pounds.  Degan is very friendly and outgoing.  She loves to carry tennis balls around the yard.  She does very well with other dogs, and loves to play.  Degan is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped.  Tag #6049HHS
Harvey – in a word Gorgeous!  Harvey is a male lab mix, DOB 2/6/08  and weighs 70 lbs.  Harvey is such a handsome guy, with shiny, wavy black  hair and a beautiful hound-dog voice!  You just can’t help but to fall in love with this big lug.  Harvey loves to play with a tennis ball and will play fetch until your arm is tired.  Then he will gladly roll onto his back for a nice belly rub and hang out together.  Harvey’s challenge – he can jump a fence and then enjoys a nice game of chase – with you doing the chasing.  So it is important that Harvey have a privacy fence or underground fence to keep him safe. Harvey is crate trained and house trained. Tag #5935HHS
Kate – female lab mix, DOB 6/3/08 and weighs approx. 45 lbs.  Kate is a very gentle and sweet girl.  She can be a bit shy at first, especially with men but she warms up to be a very loving girl.  As soon as you begin petting, Kate rolls onto her back and stretches out for a belly rub, not moving until you stop petting.  Kate gets along well with other dogs and loves running & playing.  Kate really has the sweetest temperament, but she isn’t the most photogenic and it is so hard to show what a special girl she is. We are possible pointer sharpei lab mixes.  We were  abandoned at the end of a gravel driveway . The good thing was is the family there at least kept us near the house and fed us.  They called Heartland and they were able to take us. We were lucky because we didn't get hurt or worse. We are about 10 weeks old. We are spayed and neutered, vaccinated-to-date, dewormed, have frontline on, and have a microchip. We are pretty easy going puppies.  We like other dogs very much and would probably do best if we went with other dogs.  We should do fine with cats.  We are ready for our forever homes and our new family.
