Princess, female Manx mix, DOB 8/23/03.  Princess had lived most of her life under a trailer where she had litter after litter.  The owners of the trailer were able to find homes for all of her kitties in the past.  When they found out Princess was pregnant again, they called us.  She gave birth to a beautiful litter of tailless kitties in March, 2007.  All of her babies have found their forever homes and now it is her turn.  She has been in foster care since February 2007.  Since Princess has lived most of her life fending for herself and her babies, she is a little scared in new surroundings and takes a little time to trust.  After her adjustment period, she warms up very nicely and loves attention.  She loves to be brushed and purrs constantly.  Her new family will have to understand that it will take time for her to warm up and she will also need a quieter home, one without small children.  She follows her foster mom around chirping and just waiting for her turn to get attention.  Please consider giving Princess her own family to love, a family that will treat her like the Princess that she deserves to be.  Princess has a stub tail and longer back legs typical for her breed.  She is very a petite little girl.  She does well with other cats, and could get used to a cat friendly dog.  Princess is very scared at Petsmart and hisses at everyone including her foster mom.  It is very difficult to adopt cats out of Petsmart when they are this scared.  As you can see in this picture, she is an affectionate cat.  She really loves attention but is not demanding about it.  Princess is front declawed, has been vaccinated, tested negative for Feline Leukemia/FIV, spayed and microchipped.  HHS Tag #JS4500
Meet Steak n Shake, female tuxedo DOB 5/15/07.  Steak n Shake was found in the parking lot of a local Steak n Shake late at night where her foster mom’s son works.  It was cold and rainy and she was scared.  After a little coaxing with a can of food, she crawled into a carrier and was whisked home to a nice warm place.  She was very scared at first and would rub all over the side of the cage but when I tried to pet her, she just wasn’t ready to trust completely and would bat at my hand with her claws out, purring the whole time.  She has decided that humans can be trusted and that getting love is pretty awesome.  She will take a bit to settle in to a new home and would probably do better in a home with older children.  She likes other cats and would probably be fine with a cat friendly dog.  She has been spayed, tested negative for feline leukemia/fiv, microchipped and vaccinated.  HHS Tag #5206JS

Jitterbug, male Maine Coon mix, DOB 4/2/06.  Jitterbug came to a local shelter as a stray.  Their cats (and a friendly dog or two) are free to run in a large, bright room but he was still getting more and more depressed.  He is much happier now in his own room without the competition of other furry friends but he wants to be with people.  He could co-exist with another cat or dog but does prefer to be left alone by them.  He is a very sweet boy that has had a hard life and trust comes a little more slowly for him.  He is ready for loving but can get over stimulated easily at first and if you walk away before he is done with the loving, he gets his feelings hurt and might let you know about it.  It will take a little time for him to understand that his new family will not abandon him.  If you are serious about committing to him forever, he would love to spend the rest of his life with you.  Because of his initial settling in period, children should be over the age of 8.  He has been neutered, tested negative for feline leukemia/fiv, vaccinated and microchipped.  HHS Tag #5217JS
Porter male, Siamese Mix, Flame Point, DOB 4/1/06.
Porter was brought to us in February.  A lovely woman had found him, and she was disabled (recovering from a broken back) and was so happy that Heartland Humane Society would take him, and find him a good home.  Porter has these beautiful blue eyes, and he is the sweetest, most gentle cat you could meet.  He loves other cats, all humans, dogs, combing, talking to him, his food! - come to think of it:  he loves everything!  Just one little problem.  Porter tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV).  Best Friends Animal Sanctuary has a very good article on their web site, about adopting a cat that tests positive for FIV.  Most cats that are altered and live safely indoors, can live a lifetime without any problems from this virus.  The virus is passed by deep bit wounds, and not casual contact, and only to another cat.  So, not to humans and not to dogs.  Porter could live happily with another FIV cat, a dog or just give all of his love to his humans.  Please consider Porter.  He is well mannered, affectionate, gentle and deserves a second chance.  He has had our complete medical package (see home page). Porter is front declawed. HHS Tag# 4760KD
Baby, female, DSH, Gray & White, Date of Birth: 6/1/01, weight: 15 lbs.
Front Declawed. Baby (along with Sammy & Molly - two other cats we have on our web site) lived with an elderly lady, until February, which was when her former "Mom" had to be admitted to a nursing home.  Baby, like her two feline friends, took the departure with sadness.  But Baby knew there would be other nice people out there - it is just finding them.  At almost 7 years old, Baby has 7 more years of love to give to someone.  Baby went from a quiet house with 2 other cats, to a noisy house (at times) with lots of cats and dogs.  Since she has seen both sides of the fence, so to speak, and monitoring Baby's needs, it would be fair to note that Baby would prefer to live with either no other pets, or one cat-friendly cat or dog.  That doesn't mean she isn't a very affectionate, playful, people-loving cat.  That doesn't mean that her house manners aren't perfect (which they are).  And it doesn't mean that she is any less desirable as a house-mate.  It just means that her life would be less complicated and more enjoyable if she didn't have to keep an eye on another pet all of the time.  Baby is front declawed, spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and getting back her girlish figure!  Baby's adoption fee has been lowered for just the right person looking for love.  Tag #4942KD
Toledo was found in a grumpy old man's yard.  He described her as a tiny kitten that was left out in the cold and since we are kindhearted, we agreed to take her.  Then he showed up with an adult and we said "Holy Toledo, that's not a kitten!"  But we kept her and are trying to find her a home anyway.  Toledo is very affectionate with people and could learn to get along with other cats.  She is getting the hang of peaceful co-existence in foster care, but still likes to hide out in the kitty condo and pounce on unsuspecting kitties.  It hasn't made her any friends, but she's trying!  We're not sure how she is with dogs.  Older kids would be fine.  She's been spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations.  HHS Tag#AT  DOB 1-1-06

Tommy is a sweet, affectionate boy who is looking for someone to love him for the rest of his life.  He is a gorgeous medium hair orange tabby with a cute fluffy tail and big, gold eyes.  Tommy was adopted out as a kitten and lived a good life until last year when sadly, his owner died.  His owner's family did not want to take care of him so they took him to the local pound.  Luckily, his microchip was registered to us so he came back to Heartland.  Tommy was understandably very upset and didn't know why he was in a strange place, so anxiety caused him to lick some of the fur off of his back.  However, he has settled into his new foster home and is doing very well, plus the fur on his back seems to be growing in nicely.  He is an extremely sweet, loving boy and is quite a gentle soul.  He will lightly tap your arm with his paw when he wants your attention and will gaze at you with his big gold eyes, waiting patiently for you to pet him.  He also loves to be brushed and will immediately roll onto his back to have his belly rubbed.  Tommy has perfect manners and his foster mom is very smitten with him as he has been a wonderful kitty to foster.  As you can see from his picture, his favorite thing to do is sit on his window perch and watch the world outside, but he's just as content to bat around a mouse or chase a feather toy.  Tommy appears to do okay with other cats once he has had a proper introduction.  However, he seems to be afraid of young children and dogs, so a home without both would be preferred.  Please won't you give this darling boy his chance at a forever home?  Tommy is up-to-date on his vaccinations, neutered, tested negative for Feline Leukemia/FIV, and is microchipped, DOB 4/1/03.  Tag # 5037JB
Princess Annaliese (a.k.a. Anna, Princess, Your Royal Highness & Hey You) first came to us from a kill shelter in April of '06 with a litter of kittens.  Some didn't make it and then she accepted new foster babies and we thought she was a great cat.  It turns out that life has been hard on Her Majesty and she has proclaimed herself Queen of all Cats and rules over them with an iron paw.  She can get along with other cats at times, but then she'll pick fights for no reason, so she would probably be best as an only pet.  She also thinks that dogs drool and aren't fitting for a cat of her stature.  The good news is that she's a sweetheart with people and loves to follow her foster mom around and doesn't mind being picked up for a snuggle.  She has been spayed, microchipped and is current on her vaccinations.  HHS Tag#AT3971  DOB 4-1-00
Peter is a sweetie with a personal problem.  He suffers from Inflammatory Bowel Disease which is treatable, but when it flares up gives cats loose stool.  His last owner died and the family didn't want to deal with his condition and so they returned him.  This is treatable through medication and diet and isn't very expensive to manage.  He gets along fine with other cats and dogs, but other cats would have to be switched to Peter's food.  He is better than when he first got returned, but not 100% yet.  He is using the litterbox faithfully but had some accidents when his flare-up was really bad and he just couldn't hold it.  He has a soft spot in his foster mom's heart as the first kitten to be born at her house but it would make her very happy to see him in a forever home again.  Even with his problem, he deserves real love.  He's been neutered, microchipped and is current on his vaccinations.  HHS Tag# AT  DOB 10-10-05
