Meet Taz! Date of Birth 9/14/07, weight @ 30 lbs. His dad was a purebred Boston Terrier, and mom was a Wheaten Terrier. He has a cute face with a scruffy little beard! Taz is a very friendly guy. He gets along great with people, dogs, cats, and kids. Taz loves to play with other dogs and toys. He had some problems with ear infections when he was younger but is doing well now. He will need his new family to clean his ears once a week to help prevent his ears from becoming infected. Taz is doing well with his crate training and is the last of his litter to get adopted. He is waiting patiently for his forever home and his foster mom keeps telling him it will come in time. Tag #5159
Allie is a female golden retriever/collie mix, DOB 01/18/2007.  Don’t you just love those ears!  Allie is a very sweet girl – she absolutely LOVES people, but she does prefer to be the only pet (she can get a bit grumpy with other dogs).  Allie loves playing fetch, and will actually bring the ball back to you!. She likes going for walks and would make a great running or walking partner. While she can be active, she also LOVES the opportunity to cuddle with you while watching TV and certainly enjoys her belly rubs.  She is just looking for a family to love her and she will repay them with her complete devotion, loyalty and unconditional love.  Allie is housetrained and has excellent house manners.

Vala is an American Pit Bull Terrier, around 9 months old.  She loves people and wants nothing more than to please them.  She is good-natured, easygoing, and obedient.  When she sees a person to greet, she wags her whole back end!  Vala has a lot of energy, and was almost named "Bouncer" for the way she bounces up and down when she gets excited.  She is learning not to jump up on people, and has already learned how to "sit" and "come" when called.  Vala is very loving, and just wants to be with people all the time.  She lives in a foster home with other dogs and cats and gets along well with all of them.  Her favorite thing is to curl up next to someone on the couch for a nap.  Vala is crate-trained, spayed, microchipped and current on her vaccinations.  HHS tag #5187LM
Trixie is a very friendly, Labadoodle, date of birth approx. 1/14/03, weighs approx. 40lbs. Trixie came to us because her owner had to go to a nursing home. Trixie is really the best of all worlds-she is old enough to be past all the puppy trouble but still young enough to want to play, take walks and just hang out with her new family. She is a nice medium sized dog, perfect for an older person or a family. Trixie is housetrained, spayed, microchipped and current on all vaccinations. Tag# 4825HHS
Pee Wee is a miniature male Beagle, Date of Birth 4/1/06, weighs @ 20 lbs
and about 10 1/2 inches tall. He is very sweet but timid and shy. We wonder if someone wasn't hard on him in the past. We rescued him from a high kill shelter along with Herman who he became friends with there. Both of their times were up but the volunteers convinced us that Pee Wee and Herman were just too sweet to let that happen and they were so right! Pee Wee is much happier now with his foster mom and other dogs to play with. He loves to explore the smells of the world (typical beagle) and gets along fine with other dogs. He is crate trained and appears to be housebroken.  We would recommend older children for him because he is a bit timid and young children might be too loud and rambunctious for him.  Pee Wee is still a very sweet loving little boy waiting for the right home to come along. Herman is a male Beagle, Date of Birth 4/11/06, weight @ 30 lbs. Herman came to us with Pee Wee (if you didn't guess that from the names). They are not siblings or were from the same home, just made friends at the high kill shelter where we rescued them from. Both of their times were up, but they were just too sweet to let that happen.  Herman is more outgoing of the two and is very friendly.  He is a typical Beagle with that nose to the ground exploring everything he can.  He is crate trained and appears to be house trained as well. Murphy was hit by a car!  His owners couldn’t afford to pay the vet bill, so they surrendered him to Heartland Humane Society.  He broke his pelvis in three places and had to have a plate put in.  His surgery cost around $1,500!  Please help Murphy get back into his Frisbee-playing form.  This sweet boy deserves another chance at happiness.  He has to be on crate rest for eight weeks which is hard since he's feeling better after the surgery and wants to play.

We would like to thank the students at Warren Elementary School for raising $800 for Murphy!  They held two "spirit days" where the kids paid $1 to be able to dress silly for the day.  All those dollars really add up!

We'd also like to thank all the Heartland supporters and Girl Scouts who showed up at Maggie Moo's in January for our Murphy fundraiser.  We raised almost $200!  We're almost there!    Won't you help us reach our goal?  You could hold a coin drive at work or just make a donation through PayPal - every little bit gets us closer to paying off his bill!

Selena is a female Akita Shepherd/Cattledog mix.  Date of Birth 3/25/07, weight around 40 lbs. We think she may be part Akita Inu, part German Shepherd, part Australian Cattle Dog, and maybe even part boxer or something else!  She is definitely a mix, and has all the best parts of each breed.  Selena has a great temperament, and loves children.  She is very smart, and has a beautiful coat and a tail that is always wagging. She even smiles when she is really happy. She came to Heartland as a stray and is patiently waiting for her new home. Selena loves playing with her canine companions and her chew bones. She gets along well with dogs, cats and people of all ages. Selena is housebroken, crate trained, microchipped, spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and ready for her new forever home. Tag #5142LM
Logan is a five month old male Rottweiler/Shepherd mix. He weighs about 40 lbs. Logan is just a big lug of a puppy! He can be a sweet and cuddly baby one moment and then the typical rambunctious, chewing, puppy the next.  Logan was found as a stray and is a very quick learner. He would do well in obedience classes. He needs someone who is willing to take him to classes and teach him some manners as he will be a big boy and could easily push someone around. Logan loves people and other dogs but as a puppy he wants to chase those pesky cats! Logan would be fine with older children but would be too much for younger kids.
Ozzy is a male Basset Hound/Lab mix. Date of Birth 9/2/07, weight 43 lbs.
Isn't he the cutest!? Ozzy was surrendered to animal control because his guardians lost their home in a house fire and weren't able to keep him anymore. He is very friendly and playful and gets along well with other dogs. He was in a home with children and wags his tail when he sees kids. Ozzy is crate trained and house trained. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. Tag #4839HHS
