Hugo is a male American Bulldog/x. Date of Birth 6/22/06.  Hugo weighs about 50 pounds. He came to Heartland as a puppy and has been in foster care for a very long time because he was born a pitbull. Most people are afraid of the breed but Hugo would not even hurt a fly. He has been well socialized since he came into foster care and his foster mom takes him everywhere with her. He loves to go for car rides and will sit nicely staring out the window taking in the sights. He loves to give gentle kisses and smiles at you when he is happy to see you. He enjoys belly rubs and loves to get attention from everyone he meets. Hugo is well behaved on a leash and is a very smart boy. He gets along very well with other dogs but likes to chase the cats so a home without one is a plus.  Hugo's favorite thing to do, besides be with his foster mom, is to go swimming. He also loves his chew toys, balls, and stuffed animals. Hugo is crate trained, housetrained, neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccinations. NO OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS PLEASE. Tag #4115GG
Dixie is a doll of a cocker spaniel and has the prettiest eyes. Dixie is a small cocker – only about 15 lbs, DOB 4/18/07 .  Dixie is very friendly with people and just crawls up in your lap and gives gentle kisses. Dixie is very happy to cuddle with you or willing to play. However, she must be the only pet in the house as she gets very stressed being around other pets. Dixie was adopted and was the only pet but her neighbors both had dogs outside where Dixie could see them all of the time and Dixie would bark and stress over seeing these other dogs.  That does make Dixie a special needs pet.  Her new family would have to understand her difficulty and be willing to work with her.  Dixie is crate and housetrained and otherwise has very good house manners.

Furby is a male Pomeranian. Date of Birth 1/15/06, weighs about 12 lbs. Although Furby is larger than most Pomeranians its just all the more to love. Furby was a stray picked up by animal control.  prefers his human companions to canines. He gets along well with other dogs and would be a good companion for a canine but does not play with them. He is a very happy dog and always has his tail wagging and a smile on his face. He loves to go for walks and rides well in cars.

Kermit is a special Labrador Retriever/Shepherd boy who needs a special home.  He was dumped along a busy road when he was only 8-weeks-old but luckily someone we know saved him from being hit by a semi!  Right away we knew that something was wrong with him and we debated naming him "Bobble Head" for the way that his head bobs or "Kermit" for the way that he moves his back legs together like a frog.  Kermit has been diagnosed with a neurological disorder, possibly from a head injury when he was a puppy. Does his handicap stop him, heck no, he can play and run with the best of them. He just might fall down from time to time because his balance isn't very good but he gets right back up and keeps on going. His foster mom says that he has improved significantly since he was 8 weeks old and that he will find a forever home like the other dogs at her house. He can do everything a normal dog can do now except he just "falls over" sometimes.  Kermit loves to play with toys and other dogs, and doesn't mind friendly cats. Despite his disorder, Kermit is expected to live a full, healthy life  DOB 12/14/06, weight 65 lbs.Tag # 4588GG
Samantha is a Shepherd/Rottweiler mix, around 5 months old.  She is a very sweet puppy who loves to cuddle.  Sam is very calm and patient, and does well with people, cats, and other dogs.  She enjoys the outdoors, and would love to have a fenced yard where she could run and play.  She would also do best in a family with no small children.  Sam is crate-trained, spayed, microchipped, and current on her vaccinations.

Hershe is a chocolate lab mix, approx. 3 years old,
weighs approx. 55 lbs .  Hershe was dumped along with her litter of puppies at a
strangers’ house.  Fortunately, this kind stranger fed and took care of them
until she could find a rescue group willing to take them.  Well, all of the
puppies are happy in their new homes and now it is Hershe’s turn.  Hershe is a
bit more of a challenge – she is slow to trust and warm up to strangers,
especially men and can be selective with her dog friends.  Hershe has really
improved in foster care, she now shows us what a calm, loving pet she can be,
always so happy to spend time with her foster mom.  She is crate and
house-trained and is not hyper or demanding.  She is really looking for a quiet
home where she can curl up next to you and just enjoy a belly rub. She also
loves to take walks. Hershe would do best in a home without children or with
older children (over 14) and be the only pet or with a male dog.  Hershe is
spayed, microchipped and current on her vaccinations

Shirley is such a sweet puppy that likes to cuddle.  We are not
really sure what mix she is; we have had guesses of lab, shepherd, and
cattle dog but we just know she is a very loving little girl.  We are
guessing that she will be a medium to large dog maybe 50+ lbs as an adult. Shirley and her sister Laverne (who was adopted), were dumped near animal control when the temperatures were so cold.  Shirley is just so happy to be inside from the cold with food, water and plenty of toys.
